Chattanooga Girls Rock! is excited to begin our new year-round workshop series with The Melody of Words, a poetry workshop led by local poet Erika Roberts (of Chattanooga's Velvet Poetry Productions & Poetry Is LIT). The Melody of Words is a conversation of poetry prompts meant to show the relationship between rhythm and rhyme. Music education often concerns what and how to play, but doesn't explore its students' desire to find the words to their own songs.
Over the course of two consecutive weekends, ten students will find and flow with their own personal rhythms as Erika Roberts guides them in using their unique voices to create melodic language. Writing supplies will be provided! (We'll also have some light snacks on hand, but we suggest having lunch beforehand.)
Following the second session, we welcome everyone to listen to the beats of Chattanooga's young hearts at a Showcase Performance by the workshop participants!
